Functionality Scenario 3 - "Students in Industrial Design"
Alison is on her exchange semester working at a company in Singapore. She enters her design brief in COnCEPT, which allows her supervisor in Eindhoven to browse it, give feedback, and help her with the parts that the system requires which she is not yet clear about. This exercise helps her clarify her thoughts though it does appear as a burden at this stage where her ideas are in flux and the project seems to change by the minute with every discussion with the client. Surprisingly, while discussing with her supervisor he is able to draw some links to apparently unrelated projects of Bob a Master ‘s student who is one year older than her. She can browse some of his documents, and asks for a small discussion. This helps her examine some concepts that she can use to support the discussion with her client. These are expressed in animations and storyboards; Alison can edit these substituting some background imagery to fit her context of in car appliances (rather than the kitchen which was Bob’s context), and also changing some terminology. Morever, she can re-use some of Bob’s specifications, something she finds very tedious. She writes some reflections on her design and on this meeting; these are for her own reference but are also indexed by the system. Perhaps this contribution will be crucial for a peer who is working on a similar problem.
